INTERACTION #30: A.P.C.
FRGMT

A.P.C. and Fragment Design meet at the crossroads of friendship, craft and culture. Founded by Hiroshi Fujiwara, Fragment is one of Japan’s most influential design labels, born from a deep connection between music, fashion and street culture. Often called the godfather of Harajuku style, Fujiwara was among the first to bring hip hop and American casual wear back to Tokyo after his time in the United States. His friendship with Jean Touitou has always been rooted in the same language: curiosity, sound and style.
For this capsule, the two designers looked to the Supports Surfaces art movement, known for deconstructing and reassembling form and material. The idea lives in the shared logo, a slash connecting A.P.C. and FRGMT, and in the reinterpretation of the iconic A.P.C. guitar and dagger emblem, now featuring Fragment’s lightning bolt instead.
“It’s really a matter of elective affinities — in music, culinary art, streetwear, and contemporary art alike. That’s what we tried to express in this shared collection,” says Jean Touitou.
The collection was conceived before summer in the kitchen of Rue Madame, where the two friends sketched a full denim silhouette, a Canadian tuxedo with cinematic undertones. The work jacket takes inspiration from the several models worn in Chaplin’s Modern Times, while the jeans feature a contrasting rubber stripe along the outer seams and an inner cuff referencing Paul Newman’s Cool Hand Luke. The same treatment appears on dark navy and beige gabardine chinos. Reflecting the depth and richness of this creative exchange, the capsule also includes, among other pieces, a white poplin shirt with checked side panels and embroidered initials H.F. and J.T., graphic T shirts and a leather card holder.
